With the objective to enhance air travel security in Africa, the EU-Africa Safety in Flight (EU-ASA) job has in fact been released. This EUR 5 million technical support effort is handled by the European Union Air Travel Security Firm (EASA) under the umbrella of the Africa-EU Partnership and the Africa-Europe Alliance for Sustainable Financial Investment and Jobs. In the next three years, the task will help African member states to establish an effective flight security oversight system. The EU-ASA project comes at the right time with the establishment of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) which is among the 12 flagship tasks of the African Union Program 2063.
The job consists of a set of activities that will provide assistance on 3 levels: continental, regional and nationwide. The main objectives of the job are to enhance Regional Safety Oversight Organisations (RSOOs) and help African States to please their dedications under the Chicago Convention to establish a trustworthy air travel security oversight system. This will similarly add to the application of the pillar of the SAATM on ‘Enhancing Security and Security’. The main recipients will be the African Civil Air Travel Commission (AFCAC), the African RSOOs and Regional Mishap and Occurrence Examination Organisation (RAIO). Direct assistance to some particular African states will also be supplied.
